Youth Ministry

Lutheran Youth Organization
The high school students at FELC have lots of opportunities through this organization. They love each other so much that they meet every week throughout the school year for a variety of things. Each event seeks to bring the kids closer to one another, closer to the Lord, and to be a part of the church. They do this through fun and fellowship, service, and study.

Upcoming Events:

Every Wednesday: High School Bible Study - 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Join us in the den!

Fun
Sometimes the weekly event focuses on just having a good time. Some things we have done include: movies, games “destination unknowns,” scavenger hunts, paint-balling, rock climbing, Christmas caroling…and anything else we can think of!

Service
But there is more than “fun” involved as we get together. We seek to grow and see Jesus in the world. One way that we do this is through service to others. Some things we have done in service include: lending a hand serving meals at local missions, participating in World Vision’s 30 Hour Famine to help raise money for hungry people throughout the world, visiting area nursing homes, and pitching in with the yard work for members of the congregation in need of some help, to name a few.

Study
All of our events are focused on learning more about Jesus Christ and drawing closer to him. Sometimes our focus is a more intensive study. Each Wednesday evening at 7 PM is the high school Bible study where we dive into the word and learn about who Jesus is and why he is so important to us today.

There are also larger events that take place once each year – but are so big that we all look forward to them all year long:

Decatur Gathering
High school students from all over the synod flock to be a part of this memorable weekend of worship, new friends, small groups, and fun.

30-Hour Famine
We find sponsors to support us as we go more than a full day without food. At the lock-in, we learn about what it means to go hungry, to be weak and tired and to rely on God for our strength. It’s amazing how much fun it is to get together with all of your friends and not eat! At the end of the day we celebrate with a big feast and count all the money we raised for world hunger.

Summer Trips
Wherever we go, it is sure to be an adventure. It will test us, help us stretch beyond our comfort zones and give us ample opportunities to serve others. It is a high point for us each year.

Leadership Lab
For those in the group who have demonstrated positive leadership potential, they are invited to be a part of this week long, statewide, leadership training. Students are challenged to grow and lead – and all return changed.

Junior Lutheran Youth Organization
The Junior Lutheran Youth Organization is for the 6th through 8th grade students in our church. This group meets by itself at least once each month and occasionally events are planned with the high school kids. The JLYO has been involved in things like Frisbee golf at the park, the mall scavenger hunt, movies, rock climbing, paint-balling, and much more. Also, a highlight for the JLYO is the synod-wide gathering at Lake Williamson in Carlinville, IL.

Little Lutheran Youth Organization
This stands for Little Lutheran Youth Organization and is aimed at families with young children. We plan events where the whole family can come along and enjoy the company of other families in the church. We have several events each year which include: a picnic and Frisbee golf at the park, a roller-skating / pizza party (taking full advantage of the gymnasium at the church!), putting up the Christmas decorations at the church, and from time to time taking advantage of the free movies at Glen Oak park in the summer.
